It might be stretching a point a bit but Newark should be seen as the birth place of British democracy! It was here that the English Civil War reached its climax and where King Charles was finally handed over to the Scottish Army and eventual execution. His earthworks are still visible around the town - come and see them because you will not see the like anywhere else in this country!
The old market town throbs with life, retailers are springing up everywhere and now that the Town Hall square has been cleared of market stalls you will see a bewildering variety of performing arts. In short, Newark is a gem that you must not miss and one that I am extremely proud to represent in Parliament.
